The Mutoscope is based on a classic 1890’s moving image viewing device, similar to the well know, end-of-the-peer “what the bulter saw” machines. The Mutoscope is capable to holding up to 6 different films, with a brass knob being used to switch between them.  An audience member is able to play back a particular film by simply cranking the handle on the front of the device.

A variety of different media is available for use in the Mutoscope, ranging from early cinema and pre-cinema media (including Edison and Muybridge), through to historical interest films and turn of the century variety acts. It is also possible to create new custom-made media to be displayed on the Mutoscope for specific occasions and special events.
